I t was times like these were Cady longed for a map. She was now in Avonderre a city that bordered the sea in Solraya and so far it was a quiet, yet busy city. People were everyone getting eggs or certain items, yelling at shopowners to fix things or even one woman had punished her screaming child in public. It was chaos there yet Cady was use to much worse.
The reason why she was there was easy. Queen Danielle had politely asked her to retrieve a few dresses that had been custom-made by a tailor in town for her and her ladies-in-waiting including herself for the Easter ball coming up in a matter of a couple weeks. It had been a month since King Joscelin and Queen Danielle had allowed her to stay at Court for giving them valuable information about the King of Tyrian's invasion of Solraya. She was currently a lady-in-waiting for the Queen who was very kind and humble and not materialistic whatsoever which was a huge change of pace for Cady. Her Majesty had been nothing but welcoming and kind towards her while the King had been kind and fair, yet still remained skeptical because of her past. So he had posted guards with her to keep an eye on her until she had his trust and she did not mind. They kept her protected and she had nothing to hide. She never wanted the King or Queen to be in danger and she would do anything to prove it.
She climbed out of the carriage that Her Majesty had provided for her and entered the tailor ship and quickly retrieved the dresses after being measured for her own dress size so they could have a record of it. According to Hermione the shop owner the Queen frequently ordered dresses from that certain store. Obviously having the Queen as a contact made them busy and popular with the locals, yet Cady found it fascinating. She had picked up quite a few different tips that she was tempted to write Rose a letter back home to inform her. She missed Rose and her normal, quiet life before everything had happened. Charles had wrote to her saying that she was fortunate enough to have the King and Queen's trust and loyalty towards her word and that it could have been a lot worse.
She sighed carrying the dresses and laying them inside of the carriage and suddenly feeling her stomach growl making her more hungry than ever. She glanced around and quickly located a small stand where the food was located.
"I'm going to go eat something gentlemen. I am quite hungry." She told the guards that King Joscelin had sent with her and they nodded following her towards the stand. She glanced around and then smiled at the owner who asked what she desired.
"A piece of chicken, some potatoes and a chopped carrot please with some water." She said ordering her food and then the guards gave their orders and she handed the owners the gold coins that paid for their food and they quickly ate it knowing that they needed to get back to the castle soon. Queen Danielle had told her she could stay for the day if she longed for it, but there was nothing for her here, plus the King could get suspicious.
"Are you ready gentlemen?" She asked them softly before thanking the shop owner and then turned the corner before literally running into something. Cady gasped loudly as she stumbled back a bit holding onto her head that had slammed into something hard. Groaning a bit unladylike, she glanced up and her eyes went wide at the realization that she had run into someone, a man.
"Oh my I do apologize, I did not see you there. Did I hurt you?" She asked him softly trying to get her heart beat back to normal. Just her luck she would literally run into someone.

Laeghton, in a bout of recurring depression, had taken one drink too much this morning. He hadn't really meant to, but he'd been thinking too much about Wren Rae. She had never really left his mind, and even though it had gotten better (mostly thanks to the alcohol) it would never heal. Not unless that body wasn't Wren Rae's. Not unless she came back. Nothing could heal a wound like that, one that had been forced open for years after it was inflicted, festering and never closing because the answer was never clear. That almost explained how Laeghton had felt for these past six years. And now he was a (rather intelligent) alcoholic.
He had even written her the daily letter he usually did this morning. So the alcohol was clearly not affecting his brilliance like it did most men. It never had. He wrote a daily letter to his lost (or dead) sister. He told her of his pain, of his trials, of his shortcomings, of everyone's faults. And he always wished he had someone to send them to. They were all stored up in his bookcase, never to be read by another.
And he had been forced to leave his castle at Avonderre this morning, seeing as he'd nothing to do there but weep and drown himself in his own tears. No man in his right mind would do such a thing. So Laeghton had chosen to set out and view the happenings of the village beyond his castle.
He rode out to the town, a short ride, and dismounted at the gates. The guards, who knew him well, bowed deeply to him and murmured something about my lord as they led away his steed for him. He looked about with his good eye, to see if anything was the matter, and, almost to his disappointment, nothing was going about around here. He sighed, forced a smile upon his face, and pretended to care deeply for those who lived in his town and called him my lord. He never cared. Not sice Wren Rae had left. Nothing mattered much to him anymore, and it was all he could do to run a village and keep his mind off it. Even his intellectual studies, though they reminded him of Wren Rae, were a distraction anymore.
He looked about. There were several people chatting but no one of revered status within the town. Clearly, today was not the day for news.
As he meandered about the town he was supposed to care about, supposed to be leader of, supposed to be sharing with a wife, Laeghton thought he heard something to his left. But he didn't care to turn his head and listen, as he couldn't see anything there either. He was blind and deaf on his left side, the eye from an unfortunate disease and the ear from a nasty blow to the head he'd once taken. They were... battle scars. To an extent.
Unfortunately, someone ran into him. He should have listened. He turned to see a girl, pretty as it were. But he wasn't much for pretty girls these days. He'd already put up with one wife and lost the only other woman that had ever meant anything to him. But he smiled and heard her out, her apology at least. Hurt? He scoffed. "I'm fine, thank you." He looked her up and down with his good eye. She was from the court. Solraya, then? "Pardon, my lady, do you come from the court of Solraya? You are no peasant, as I can see." he smiled softly but forlornly as he thought of Wren Rae, her hair the same glowing gold as this woman's.

Cady certainly felt like the moron of the century right now. She simply was not paying attention yet if she had just simply glanced over to her left, she would have seen the gentleman whom she had ran into. Her mind was elsewhere trying to get herself back towards the castle so she could prove to King Joscelin and Queen Danielle that she was not trying to escape or give any information to anyone else regarding the plans of invasion. She glanced over at the man she had run into at the same time he was examining her and came to the conclusion that he was a nobleman. It was obvious by his clothing, yet he carried himself that way. She noticed that he made a noise as he replied that he was alright.
Raising an eyebrow at him, she smirked a bit as he asked if she was from the court, she was in her typical black and green dress that Queen Danielle often asked her to wear because they were two of Cady’s favorite colors and Danielle had commissioned a dress for her just because of that. That was how kind the Queen was and she had made the dress herself just requesting the material. The King and Queen had been very impressed by her skills and she often found herself being called to their chambers to fix shirts, mostly the King’s because they often got ripped when he rode or played sports. She then snapped her head from her thoughts before nodding her head gently and curtseying once more, once again, it was habit towards her.
“I am indeed sir; I am a lady-in-waiting for the Queen. I am only here to pick up some dresses she had custom made for her and for her ladies-in-waiting. Are you from around her sir? I do not recognize you and I have been here in Solraya for almost a few months now.” She asked him curiously as the guards stepped forward to see if she was alright.
“I was my own clumsiness Thomas; there is no need for that please. You can glance around if you like. I will be alright and will inform you once I am ready to leave.” She said to them and they shrugged swiftly.
“It’s our orders miss, we have to stick around.” Thomas replied before the other guard found a blacksmith and they both raced off to adore and examine the swords. Cady meanwhile rolled her eyes and turned back towards the man.
“I apologize for them, it’s orders from the King to have guards if we go anywhere.” She replied with a sigh pushing a piece of her hair from her face so she could properly see the man in front of her. She had to admit, he was handsome, but she would not dwell on that.

For all his nobility, Laeghton looked rather like a commoner today, for all he wore was a simple, loose white shirt, unlaced down to his ribcage, and a common pair of brown pants. Nothing about him hinted to anyone that he might be master over all of them, except that he had the glinting silver ring of his family crest on his left hand and a gold pendant of Wren Rae's dangling from his neck. He didn't care to be seen this way In fact, it might even be for the better.
He would rather be seen by his people as someone not much different than they, though somewhat much better off. In the end, all that seemed to matter would be the life he lived, and not what he owned. And now, he had two people to try and live for, since for all he knew, his dear little sister was dead. Every day, he tried to pray for her to not be so, but every day he found it harder to talk to a god that had kept his sister from him so long. And as Laeghton was coming to believe, if he killed himself, he'd never see her in the afterlife. The only reason he was alive was because of her, because maybe she was here, or maybe he'd still get a chance to see her again some day, in the paradise he was certain she'd be in. It was true; Laeghton missed Wren Rae. His love for her had now surpassed his craving for power.
He turned to this girl, so young and so beautiful, and it broke his heart that she reminded him of Wren Rae so. Her hair, the same golden mane, was of the same making as his dear sisters. He tried not to let her see him staring, clearly heartbroken and torn apart, but knew he was likely unsuccessful.
A sad smile escaped his lips and he almost laughed when she didn't recognize him. In a last-minute jest, Laeghton decided to lead her astray, to play along. Not in the courtly love sort of way- that was the most idiotic thing he knew- but just enough to mess with her head. He couldn't stand to speak too seriously to this girl that looked so like his lost sister, anyway. A growing smile gracing his eyes, Laeghton answered casually, "I'm Laeghton, madam. 'Tis a pleasure to meet a courtly woman of the great Solraya." He bowed to her and didn't expect that she'd know him by his first name. No lies, either- he was faring well.
"It's no problem," he continued. "But I promise I won't touch you lest I'm invited." Laeghton smiled genuinely, not intending any sort of naughty behaviour. He couldn't handle anything like that now. For such a young man, Laeghton sure felt much older.
He just needed someone to understand him now.

Cady was still trying to study the man that was in front of her. He looked like a commoner, however he was wearing what looked like fancy jewelry or maybe a family heirloom. The more she studied it the more she realized that he could be more than what he introduced her to. No normal commoner went around town wearing heirlooms or jewelry hanging about them risking them being stolen or taken from them. She couldn’t help, but shake the feeling that there was more than meet the eyes with this handsome, young gentleman.
He introduced himself to her and she blushed not realizing that she had not introduced herself to him, only revealing that she was a member of Queen Danielle’s royal court. Hopefully he did not think that she was a rich snob which was quite the opposite of her. That was her heritage and biological family back in Tyrian, she snorted to herself, before sighing to herself reminding herself that her closest friend and ally in the Queen who reminded her that she was nothing like whom she was before she left and that she never had to return to that life. She officially resided in Solraya and would not change it for anything.
“I do apologize, my name is Cadence Black, however, most people call me Cady so you may as well if you desire. It is a pleasure to meet you as well Laeghton, that is an interesting name yet different. I like it. It’s a name you do not hear every single day. Are you from here in Solraya?” She asked and then smiled genuinely at him watching the guards keeping an eye on them from the corner of her eye.
“Thank you; I have only been a lady-in-waiting for a month or so.” She commented as the wind picked up a bit and several pieces of her hair blew in her face and she shook her head slightly shaking them from her eyesight. She then heard his comment about not touching her unless inviting him and she could not help, but blush a bit.
“Well that shall depend on the matter of the invitation I suppose. For example if I trip over something, you would have to touch me in order to catch my fall. Unless you would be willing to let a young lady fall.” She said with a small smirk residing on her face. She did not know why, but she was intrigued by Laeghton.

Post by Lord Laeghton Mercer on Mar 10, 2012 9:46:56 GMT -6
Laeghton Mercer, Lord Avonderre, wasn't the kind of person that he thought should have the right to be a lord, and especially of this mini-kingdom just off Solraya. He was a drunk and an addict, a poet and an artist, and a mourner and a griever. There were so many things wrong with him, and his heart was torn into so many pieces that he was almost certain he'd lost some of them in one of the emotional storms that raged inside of him. It wasn't a good life, this one, even in its wealth.
He enjoyed his psuedo-anonymity right now, knowing that this woman didn't reconize him. It was odd, because he had thought more people knew him than just those in his village, but perhaps that had been to naive a thought. It wasn't like he was strikingly handsome or unforgettable. In his opinion, Laeghton was too plain to make any sort of impression, and looked even less attractive in all of his grieving. He'd been depressed for a long time now; he only wanted closure. If Wren Rae was dead, he wanted it confirmed.
He laughed lightly at her comment. Yes, his name was certainly one of a kind around here, but so were most. "Thank you, my lady." He chuckled a bit to himself and added, "Lady Cady?" He was amused by this rhyme.
She was a courtly woman of Solraya, the greatest court in the land. Under the king and queen, it was thriving, though the threat from Tyrain still lingered (and well Laeghton knew, for his little Christiandom was in danger as well). But all the same, his faith in Solraya outmatched his worry in Tyrian, for Solraya was bigger and had more of an army, plus Avonderre to help them out should there be war. "A good court. Do you work often for Queen Danielle, then?" He smiled.
And she set forth a challenge-ah, there it was. She was witty. Witty and golden-haired like his fair sister Wren Rae was once. A pang of self-pity didn't fail to flash over his face, but he answered just the same. "But I trust you've learned your balance enough not to fall..." in love, he wanted to add. He certainly hadn't found that balance. "And yet I must say, I would feel obliged to catch you should something of that nature happen, Lady Cady." He smiled gently, a nobleman's smile, and absently toyed with his necklace.
Surely though, she'd noticed something. She probably already guessed he was a noble; Laeghton wasn't very good at playing these sorts of games.

Cadence suddenly had a feeling inside of her that she should probably recognize Laeghton, but she did not and she did not want to come across as a fool if she did something foolish or out of character for her so she decided to keep silent on the feeling unless she had some evidence on her. She was not one to accuse someone of doing anything rash. She never would either unlike her own other family members once again reminding herself that she was not back there, but in her true home in Solraya. She enjoyed meeting new people and Laeghton was no exception. She could tell by looking in his eyes that something was missing largely in his life. She found herself hoping that he could find that and be happy once more.
She smiled and blushed a tiny bit at his cute nickname for her, “You are very welcome dear sir, or shall I call you Sir Laeghton? Most people at court call me Lady Cadence, or Lady Black. Only their Majesties and close friends call me Cady or something similar to that. However I prefer Cady.” She replied with a small sheepish smile and a small shrug of her shoulder.
Glancing around, she kept reminding herself that she should leave soon to return to the castle, however, she could not help, but want to stay and continue talking to Laeghton finding this company very entertaining and intrigued by him still. He was not like any other man she had ever come across. She then smiled and nodded her head once very gently at his question.
“Yes I do I am one of her ladies-in-waiting so I see her every single day. Her Majesty the Queen is very kind and humble. I am nothing, but grateful to become one of her ladies-in-waiting. This is still all new to me.” She replied lying a bit about that, but it was not her intention to reveal her family history at this particular moment in time. Maybe if something would happen to her, then maybe she could reveal it. It had to be a secret for now, no one else besides the King and Queen would know.
She then listened to him accept her mini-challenge and she could not help, but smirk a tiny bit. No one was around to judge her or correct her. “Well a lady will never know if she will trip or not especially since I am not use to wearing high shoes with these…heels on them as Her Majesty calls them, but I thank you in advance if something should arise. I am hopeful that it shall not happen though.” She commented back giving him a tiny smirk and then saw him play with the necklace around him.
“That is a very elegant necklace you have Sir Laeghton. Is it your own?” She asked noticing a couple pieces of jewelry on his hands and his necklace. Maybe he was a noble after all.

Every day, Laeghton could swear that his missed his sister even more. He wished, for the life of him, that she weren't dead, but the more years that passed, the more he was sure of it. There was no other answer to the ever-pressing question, simply none. But as long as the hope lingered, Laeghton would live in a hell of his own with an uncertainty that he did not want. He would roam aimlessly and live empty. But he couldn't try suicide again. He had to meet Wren Rae in heaven.
The necklace he wore round his neck was all he had left of her, and the memory of the last time he saw her. She'd been twenty, and a fair flower, when he had last seen her at his manor. He was married and she was about to be, and the last thing she'd ever told him was, 'Oh, but Laegh, you're going to have such a good life! And I shall too, and our castles shall be like two birds of one nest.' She had been so excited to marry, so it had seemed. But now he even questioned that. Not thinking much of it, Laeghton reached up to rub the necklace, so near his heart.
Sir? Oh, no, he thought. He was no knight. Just a Lord. Though a higher title, it wasn't, in his eyes, anything to be arrogantly proud of. He laughed a little and said, "Just Laeghton will do, Lady Cady." His eyes smiled sorrowfully and he knew his emotions were as plain as day. They always had been, but especially when he had some alcohol in his system. His breath probably smelled of it, too.
He recalled the Court of Solraya, where he'd lived for just a year before himself becoming Lord Avonderre. The new king and queen were very kind. "His Majesty and Her Grace are well thought of here. And everywhere, save Tyrian. They're very generous, they are." His commoner's speak had accidentally let slip that he knew them. Mistake number one. Laeghton made a lot of those, he knew, and this was only today's first. No, second. Drinking was first. Mistake number two.
Laeghton grinned at her comment. Mistake number three. An enticing, naughty grin it had been, and he had not meant it that way. Wren Rae had once told him he could win the heart of any woman, even with a frown, for he was so genuine and daunting and looked as though he were always ready for a game. But those were lies, he knew. Wren Rae was too kind to him. He was ugly, so he knew, and no woman should ever want him, the wreck that he was. He heard her say something-oh, the necklace. Wren Rae. Something he'd not easily speak about. He answered quietly, that naughty glimmer apparently still in his eye despite his trying to rid it, "It... It is now. I must apologise, I need not wear this guise any longer. I am Laeghton Mercer, Lord Avonderre. Pardon my deception, if you will. I'd much rather be a commoner to my people."
He smiled painfully and touched the necklace again. He missed Wren Rae.

Cady was still intrigued as ever by Laeghton, yet she was still wondering why. Maybe it was his smile, or his eyes, or his kindness towards her. Women had always been well adverse in many things and Cady was no exception. As the only princess of the King of Tyrian, she had been surrounded by tutors and ladies-in-waiting that taught her several things throughout her life and her mother had even taught her about how to read men.
Laeghton was different. There was an emptiness in his eyes and in his heart, she could hear it in his voice. He missed something or someone. He was too good looking to be single, so maybe he had lost or divorced his wife if anything. He was…different. Yet for some reason she loved the challenge of trying to figure out what it was and she felt the sudden urge to help him. She wanted to help him, he was young, handsome, kind. He could have anyone he wanted. He could do anything he wanted. Laeghton was very different indeed.
She then smiled back at him as he corrected her about his name and noticed that there was a smell of alcohol about him. She sniffed a bit and noticed that it was not enough to make her want to cough or gag, but just enough for her to distinguish that it was indeed alcohol.
“I do apologize sir…I mean Laeghton, I have been surrounded by formalities all of my life and especially recently since I joined the Court. You can call me just Cady if you would like.” She replied back giving him a warm smile in return glancing around noticing the guards staring at her once more. She shook her head no not ready to leave now and they went back to glancing around.
Raising an eyebrow, Cady stared at him surprised that he knew personally King Joscelin and Queen Danielle, “You know their Majesties as well? They are very kind and generous. They do not have to be unless some tyrants around here, but they are. Her Majesty is also starting to become a close friend of my own. She trusts me and that means a lot to me. Plus I have been somewhat helpful to their war with Tyrian. Do you mind answering a question for me? Since you are from here, what is Avonderre’s position if Tyrian and Solraya go to war? I expect the King of Tyrian would expect Avonderre’s support.” She asked curiously.
He smiled at her again and she couldn’t help, but smile back at him. He had a contagious smile drunk or not drunk and she blushed a tiny bit. He then confessed that he had a disguise and that he was actually Lord of Avonderre. Her eyes went a bit wide and her eyebrows went up, “Wait you’re the Lord of Avonderre? Well I do appreciate your honesty, I thank you for that.” She replied lamely as her head was screaming that if she hated liars, then she shouldn’t lie to him. She didn’t trust him enough just yet although he was nice, but she did not know where his allegiance was. Plus Queen Danielle had advised her not to tell anyone. She felt bad for not telling him, but it was the best idea for now. He messed with the necklace once more and she smiled sweetly.
“It must mean a lot to you, I know mine does.” She said taking her hand and gently pulling out her long necklace with Charles’ ring on it. He had given it to her when she had left, telling her when she wore it, she’d have him with her, “I miss my brother, this is his ring.” She told him softly holding it out to him so he could see it if he wished to see it.

Post by Lord Laeghton Mercer on Mar 14, 2012 15:09:56 GMT -6
All day long, it seemed like all Laeghton ever thought of was his sister. Pathetic, maybe, but she'd also been his best friend. She was six years his junior, but more intelligent than the oldest man in Avonderre. Not many could challenge her for brilliance, wit, or profundity, but Wren Rae had put up with Laeghton's self-taught genius anyhow. She loved him so much, and he her. And losing her was never supposed to happen.
She'd cost him his sobriety, his wife, his best friend, and nearly his life. But he vowed never to get better, in a way. Lest she return, he would never again be the same man he used to be. He would mourn her every morning and night. He would not be as some had once described his younger years, bright, fiery, generous. That was no longer Laeghton. He was resigned to drinking, writing letters, and pretending to oversee a kingdom he didn't especially care about. And that, he knew, was pathetically selfish. He was not a good man anymore.
He smiled upon this girl, so sweet as he may well have once been. With intended playfulness but failing, he said, "But I much prefer Lady Cady. It's a beauty." He'd lost his touch with everything. Including, especially, the heart of any given woman. He had no need. No child he needed, nor wife, for he could never be a whole person without Wren Rae.
And, oh! A political question? Laeghton as well as forgot everything that Cady said about the King and Queen. He didn't know if he should be overjoyed or suspicious that she was asking. But his position had been publically stated before, and was no secret. He smiled slyly and responded with a soft eye, "I affiliate only with Solraya, my dear. Without Solraya, I'd not have my own kingdom." Or a lost sister, he added. The court of Solraya knew of this trouble, but had never done much about it. Wren Rae wasn't much of a secret, either. He just couldn't handle speaking of her. And not about how Solraya had forgotten her.
"I really do apologise," he smiled timidly, wishing he had some whiskey at hand right now. "That was rather naughty of me, and I really ought not decieve. I feel, though, ashamed to sport such a guise in the presence of such... poverty as is around here sometimes. I don't want to be a tyrant," he said cooly. He brushed a trembling hand through his brown hair and sighed. He would never remaster courtship. He was too drunk and too misguided.
And... the necklace... Oh, for the love of God, why that? He smiled sheepishly and falsely when he answered, "And I miss my sister, and this is hers." He wanted to change the subject so dearly but could not think of any logical progression of conversation to flee to, and so stood awkwardly, not knowing what to say now.

As much as Cady hated assumptions, they had them all around her. Every single day and in every single situation she had been all of her life, from being at court in Tyrian to being a court here in Solraya and seeing everyone around her made her feel like she was under the critical eye of everyone around her since she was still new to the country and new to the Court. However she had the trust of King Joscelin and Queen Danielle and that meant everything to her right now considering the circumstances of her arrival to Court in the first place. Now she was assuming things in her head about the new arrival in her life regarding Laeghton, or technically Lord Mercer. Yet he wished to be common around his people and not be treated as anything else but a human being. Everyone deserved an opportunity to be normal, but Cady and Laeghton were not normal people.
She could not help, but once more blush as he regarded her as Lady Cady once more and announced that he preferred it to be that way. He had this air about him that she could not help, but want to be around him and enjoy his company. He seemed broken and she wanted to help, not completely fix him, but help him fix himself. She saw many people at court back in Tyrian who threw their lives away and died young when they had a full life to live and enjoy it. You only had one chance to live your life, so why not? That was a huge reason why she had left Tyrian in the first place.
“Thank you Sir Laeghton, forgive me if I slip into calling you Lord Mercer if other people are around especially the guards since they technically work for the King and not myself. I am only a lady-in-waiting and please do not repeat this to anyone especially the Queen, but it is so nice to get out of the castle every now and then and explore the land. It is not that the Queen keeps us inside all day, but it does get a bit boring since she has a couple more ladies-in-waiting who don’t like that I am new and have yet to prove that I am useful. However they do not know how important I am especially to their Majesties,” She said and then stopping suddenly when she found herself revealing too much. She was too close in revealing herself to Laeghton and she couldn’t trust him just yet with that specific information, “It is good that Solraya and their Majesties have your allegiance and loyalty. I know they appreciate it profoundly especially King Joscelin with the threats of attack and war surrounding him from the cruel, sadist King of Tyrian.” She said about growling out her father’s name, practically spitting it out.
Clearing her throat, she blushed a bit and smiled when he apologized for having alcohol in him, she dismissed it with her hand, “Forgive me for being speaking out of tongue, but never apologize for being yourself. You are not a tyrant either; never speak like that again please. At least you’re not an angry person when you drink, or are you?” She asked him raising an eyebrow smirking a bit at him.
She then smiled as she glanced over at the necklace he described as his sister’s and then glanced around deciding that maybe it was a good idea to change the subject, “I miss my brother too, he is stuck where he is now and can not escape. It pains me to see like him. However I have a job for you if you are willing to accept it. Since I am new to your kingdom, would you care to show me around in preparation if I am asked to come back. I might since the Queen has grown to love this dress maker here.” She asked him curiously wondering if he would take her up on his offer. Maybe she wanted to spend more time around him, she did not put her finger on it.

Formalities, while necessary, were something that Laeghton couldn't stand. He knew them all, of course, for he was a courtly man. A gentleman. He could court a lady or joust a knight. He knew it all; but knowing it was almost an inbred trait. Using it was something altogether different, something that Laeghton wasn't terribly fond of.
He laughed a bit when she rejected these informalities he was using. No, the court of Solraya was a proper court, with everything done right and all manners perfected. It was the epitome of the court game, that stupid game that Laeghton wouldn't have in his court of Avonderre. His castle was relatively empty as far as attendents and courtiers, and was nothing like other showy courts about the land. He didn't host balls or jousts or rash parties, and he didn't like social gatherings anyhow. He'd grown out of that by the time he turned twelve. Courtly life was no fairy tale. It was just preposterous.
"Don't you worry, Lady Cady. I'm sure you're a very good lady in waiting. You'd be a fine attendent, I've no doubt." he smiled sweetly and heard her out. Something in her tone told him she despised the enemy Tyrian, and it made him chuckle. She was serious about this alliance. "I wouldn't dare ally with Tyrian, m'lady. I've much better friends in Solraya, and I've heard terrible things of Tyrian and its Tyrant. But no need to talk policy, Lady Cady, when there are so many better things to discuss?"
He shied away for a second, knowing for sure that she knew he had drinken this morning. He didn't care for anyone to know he was an alcoholic. He cleared his throat and replied shyly, "I don't ever plan on being a tyrant. And lest you think I'm angry now, no. Before you tell me, though, I know. I know I shouldn't drink."
Thankfully, she turned the conversation away from their lost loved ones, which had been making him uneasy for quite some time. Show her around? Sure. Why not? Laeghton could work on his courtship, eh? "Why, certainly my lady." he offered up his arm, nodded politely to her men, and then whispered, "Will they be accompanying us? If not, I've got a big kingdom to show you, my Lady Cady."

If Cady could see her reflection right now she would probably really embarrassed with herself at the moment. She could feel the warmth spread across her cheeks and eventually around the face. The Lord Laeghton was making her flush with his compliments and his smile. She knew that if anyone had been around then she would be even more embarrassed. Her mother had always taught her and Charles the virtue of humility, thankfully otherwise Cady would have gone running for the hills as soon as she had gotten flustered. Thankfully she had not made a fool out of herself and stayed put continuing to be content with life and once again grateful to get out of the castle every now and then. She wondered if as Lord of Avonderre if he threw any balls or events because according to other ladies-in-waiting and even Queen Danielle herself had mentioned that nothing much happened here in Avonderre which was a shame since it would bring it people and profit from around the land. She could tell that he was not a greedy or selfish man in that respect either. Normally lord who would take any opportunity they had to show off their lands and their riches, but Laeghton was not like that whatsoever.
Turning her attention back towards him as he reassured her that she was a good lady-in-waiting to the Queen, she couldn’t help, but smile sweetly at him, “You are too kind dear Laeghton. I only can hope that Her Majesty agrees with your statement on that. I only wish for her to be satisfied and happy. She is a lovely, kind woman.” She said with a smile and then stared at him when he agreed with her about her father back in Tyrian and how he would be their ally, only Solraya’s which made her feel better and respect him even more. People could never tell where other people’s loyalties were.
“Well I only know what I know dear sir and I have been around the court enough to know that the King of Tyrian is a selfish bastard and to quote the King himself, a thorn in his and Solraya’s side. I know you are not a tyrant and you are intelligent enough to spot one miles away. As for the matter of you enjoying alcohol, we all do. There is nothing wrong with it, it is not against the law so who am I to tell you that you should not do that. I would never tell you to stop doing what you clearly enjoy.” She told him with a smile not wanting to annoy him like that even if she did, which she did not. Laeghton was a grown man, he could do whatever he wanted.
He accepted her offer of showing her around Avonderre and she was grateful to get to spend time with him more. Immediately accepting his arm, she took it and wrapped her hand tightly against his forearm and gave him a smile. She smirked a bit at his question and shook her head no.
“No they will not be joining us dear Laeghton, their orders to accompany me when I was alone. Clearly I am not so we shall not be disturbed. Plus it seems that they have found some amusement in the game of Squash.” She replied pointing towards them. She ushered Laeghton over to the guards who stared at her.
“Lord Mercer and I will be taking a walk around the city. You need not accompany us so you may enjoy the game and we shall not tell the King and Queen gentlemen.” She told him raising an eyebrow at them as they both nodded and turned back towards the game. She smirked back up at Laeghton with a playful grin and lead him away from the guards.
“Lead the way dear sir.”

There was one thing that had once stricken down Laeghton's pride. Sure, he had once been a proud, vain man, who had inherited a kingdom and planned on having the high life. But when he lost Wren Rae, everything had been turned on its head. He fell into depression and took up drinking. And once that spell had (somewhat) passed, he had lost his own self, and his pride. The result was the humble Laeghton that stood here now, running a boring kingdom in a dreary world.
He chuckled from the back of his throat. He was glad that Cady wasn't one of those women who had to show off everything about them. "No worries. She's a very nice queen, and you're a very nice lady." Laeghton smiled softly, a genuinely sweet smile this time. He wasn't looking anymore for someone to love. Lately, his mind had been occupied with his sister and all the things that had gone on in his life. In fact, his last marriage had been cut off, and he was glad for it. Not only was the woman a terror, but he couldn't handle her hanging onto him when he wasn't even strong himself.
Laeghton raised an eyebrow and nodded cautiously. She was fiesty, Lady Cady, and Laeghton was intrigued. He didn't like to get into politics, and preferred usually to keep to himself in his own realm. "Mhm," he said dully. He didn't like talking like this. A subject change was a welcome revision. "It's less of a... casual matter than you might think," he said in regard to his alcohol consumption. Probably, it was terribly unhealthy. But he didn't plan on stopping.
"Very well," said Laeghton, with a pleased smirk on his lips and a glint in his eye. She took his arm and he was glad to have someone there again, at least for the time being. Once he saw anything that reminded him of Wren Rae, he'd be less pleased. But he made sure that Lady Cady was close at his side and then walked on, beginning down the main street in the town of Avonderre.
"This is my Avonderre, Lady Cady, and the quietest town in the world. But everything here is of the finest quality and the people are nice once you let them know you."

Cady was forever grateful that the guards were not going to be following her around on their journey. She wanted the alone time with Laeghton for several different reasons, but the main one being that she throughly enjoyed his company so far and that she could defend herself if he was sly enough to try anything with her. In addition there was Elias the town physician to take care of her. However she highly doubted that Laeghton would try anything with her. She just had a good feeling about him, that he was also a good person, but perhaps was a bit lost in the world.
She then smiled and nodded agreeing with him about the King and Queen, especially Danielle. She was incredibly kind and would not ask for a better, kinder queen. Her and Dani as she preferred to be called were very good friends and they wanted to remain being friends. She could also safely admit that she was getting to be a bit closer with King Joscelin himself. He trusted her and that meant a lot to her especially since of her background.
She then blushed a bit more letting him guide her around Avonderre's town square, "You are too kind Laeghton. I strive to make the Queen happy and as comfortable as she can be. She gets quite stressful especially when the King is worried about the attacks. It is quite sweet how they care about one another. Hopefully one day I will be as happy as they are." She replied and then blushed as she realized that she was rambling.
"I do apologize and no I do believe you on that. If alcohol is what you want to drink, then feel free to. You are an adult and free to do whatever you wish. Do not let anyone stop you from doing what you want dear Laeghton. You have the freedom to do whatever you wish." She said squeezing his forearm very gently.
She gave him a sweet smile as they continued to walk down the main streets of Avonderre's town square and she noticed that he was correct in the fact that people were really nice and quiet around here which was comforting compared to the hustle and bustle of the court back in Solraya.
"I already have met some of your residents here Sir Laeghton and everyone is very kind. Although I do confess a few weeks ago I was attacked by some horrible drunkard men from the tavern, however, the physician Elias Drogo saved my life. I owe him a big debt, if you are ever need of a physician, please call on him. I recommend him with my life." She said with a smile.
"So what else will you show me? I want to see everything." She asked curiously with a smile.
