Cady had always warned herself not to get too involved with people especially with people in a new setting such as the small country of Avonderre, yet she had to remind her that she was going to be Lady of Avonderre sooner rather than later. She would love and respect everyone in the country and would make them feel as if they could talk to her or Laeghton about anything. Things were going to change now and she had to be more open to the concerns and welfare of the citizens, especially with the threats of an attack rising. Rumors were surrounding the small kingdom and Laeghton, like most leaders, did not want to alarm anyone. So he let rumors fly and he spent all day and some evenings pouring over letters and advisors were constantly leaving his study. But after dinner time, he was hers.
Now Cady waited patiently for her dear friend to answer the door. She hoped that she wasn't bothering poor Elias. There had been an outbreak of the flu going on lately and as the only town physician, Elias was quite busy. She felt guilty not writing to him, but her attention had been on helping Laeghton repair himself and his life. Now she was getting married to him and she was excited to tell Elias the great news. She couldn't help, but think about their last meeting. He had placed her in her bed and as a way of gratitude, she had kissed his cheek gently. The look on his face was surprising and he had left in somewhat of a rush.
Her thoughts were soon interrupted as the door opened and she smiled as she curtseyed in front of her old friend as he greeted her, "Good morning Elly. I hope you have been well. I apologize for not writing you sooner, I imagine you have been busy with the illnesses that have been spreading around the city. Are you with a patient at this moment? I wish to speak with you about some wonderful yet urgent news." She asked him curiously tiptoeing a bit to see if he was alone in his examining room. She did not wish to disturb him at all.
