writing because it is her livelihood and her reason for living. without it, she'd go loony.

honesty for although she'd love to marry up, she wants to marry for love, which starts with trust.
DISLIKES:
courtly womenalthough she sometimes resides there, she hates how false they are.
arrogance and especially in men, for vanity makes one look volutile.
social events because she is pretty much an introvert and is an awkward conversation keeper.
secrets though it is hypocritical, for she has her own. she doesn't like when people backstab.
social divisions and social stereotypes, especially on women.
jousting because surely that's a waste of time, to hurt oneself so?

TOXIC SECRET: Flanna's father was a much-hated Irish murderer and robber, who killed many people in both Solraya and Tyrian- her real last name is MacDowell (she took her mother's maiden name).

HISTORY: For thirteen of her childhood years, Flanna had never questioned that her father came home every night with more jewels, more treasures, and more money. She thought that was what he did for a living, collect things. But the more he came home like this, the more her mother and him argued. And when Flanna was thirteen, she learned why. For a year after she learned how her father came about these things--stealing, killing, robbing--she lived as a fugitive with her mother and brothers.

But justs days after her fourteenth birthday, Flanna's brother Carson took her down to Dublin to 'see something,' which ended up being the hanging of the great murderer Alexander McDowell. Flanna held up as she watched her father-who she now felt like she should hate-suffer a short drop and a sudden stop.

But over the next few years, Flanna regretted ever thinking she could hte someone. And when she was sixteen, Flanna left Ireland to go out and find another way to cope. Ireland simply was not big enough for her and the memories she had. So she parted for Avonderre, with a new identity and a promise to never tell anyone who she was the daughter of. Her name, Kelly, was good enough. So Flanna moved into Avonderre and picked up a trade she'd always loved- playwriting. It was not conventional of a woman, but it was right for her, especially seeing as women in Ireland had much more freedom than those elsewhere.

But she made sparse money on her writing, and Flanna had to do odd jobs on the side too--anything but prostitution. For the last six years, Flanna has lived peacefully in Avonderre but still she has not found a man that will take her as his own. That might be for the better, though, as she could never marry anyone like her father.
