ooc: I asked Katie to begin the ball thread so this is what she came up with which is why it starts off with Cadence, since Cady is the one who was in charge of planning it. “Lady Cadence, where would you like this?” a page asked her curiously standing in front of the person in charge of planning the Easter Masquerade Ball. The young woman known as Cadence Black, or Lady Cadence to everyone around her, minus her close friends, glanced up and gave the page a sweet yet tired smile pointing towards the kitchen door down the hall. “In the kitchens, is there any more food left to be brought in?” She asked curiously as the page shook his head no and headed down the hallway rushing to get the last of the food and wine brought in. The King and Queen of Solraya were throwing a masquerade ball for entertainment and political reasons. They both wanted to show the people of the big and proud country that despite the rumors and gossip of war, that everyone in Solraya was united and to forget about their problems for the evening. Queen Danielle had come up with the idea for a ball and King Joscelin easily gave into her, finding it hard to resist what his wife wanted. When the Queen had asked Cady to take over the preparations, Cady could not resist her as well. “Excuse me for a minute sir, gentleman the banners needs to be higher, high enough that it is not hovering over people as they enter the ballroom and also out of the way on the side.” She ordered the pages who nodded and lifted the curtains to the entrance higher and she nodded in agreement giving them a grateful smile. “Thank you gentleman, we’re about done. Can you please help arrange these tables for the food and wine? Then setting the tables and the head table will be next if you will. The King and Queen are hosting the different Lords and Ladies, and here is what the Queen has instructed you to follow.” She said handing a parchment of paper with the Queen’s seal on there and he opened it up and nodded before she let him finish his job and then glanced around as the Queen stopped and entered the ballroom glancing around giving Cady a bright smile as everyone including her bowed at her. “Oh my goodness Lady Cadence this is beautiful, you did an amazing job! The King and I are excited for this evening’s gala. You need to get ready; you must be ready for your evening with the Lord of Avonderre.” Queen Danielle smirked at her a tiny bit playfully as Cadence immediately followed her out of the ballroom and down the hallway. “Your Majesty how do you know about that?” Cadence asked curiously as they entered her chambers and Danielle only smiled at her before sitting her down in a chair and called for her chambermaids to help Cady get ready. “Cady I am your closest friend am I not? I know everything.” She replied with a laugh as Cady laughed and blushed a bit pulling off her bonnet releasing her hair as it began to get worked on. The two young women continued to get ready and talk among themselves ready for this evening’s festivities. *** It was now six in the evening and it was almost time for the ball to start. Dinner would be first and then it would continue with dancing and music for the rest of the evening. Cady waited in the Queen’s chambers as King Joscelin and Queen Danielle were preparing to enter the ball and talking among themselves quietly as the trumpets and horns announced their presence and they both took each other’s hands and entered the ballroom together giving their subjects warm, comforting space and Cady glanced around waiting for her escort, the Lord of Avonderre to show up. He said he would be there and she hoped that he would not be too late. The Queen expected her at the head table before the dinner began and she did not want to begin the evening on a bad note. Her bright, green dress flowed down past her feet and she shifted in her shoes ready for the evening to begin as she straightened the green mask on her face that matched her dress color perfectly. She glanced inside the ballroom as the royals continued to make their way down the aisle nodding and greeting everyone and she wondered whether to stay to wait for Laeghton or go inside. She fanned herself with her fan gently and slowly sat down at a bench listening to the page announcing everyone. She heard a noise close to her and she turned to see who it was and she couldn’t help, but smile at who was coming towards her.

Rowan walked into the entrance of the castle in his ceremonial best. The seamstresses had seen to it that his garments were made ready. He fully admitted that his knowledge did not lay in fashion. He could patch up his surcoat easily enough, but he knew that he was out of his depth planning for a masquerade. His one request was that the mask that they had prepared for him was that of a falcon. People who knew him would know who he was in an instant, but he didn't care about keeping his identity a secret.
All said, the ladies had done a good job at suiting his wardrobe to the occasion. He would do something nice for them later. He had come in so late from his training that they had scolded him and rushed him into getting prepared. Now that he was here, he felt even more out of place. His place was on the battlefield, not at some party. Especially when he was here stag. It wasn't as if he had intended to come stag, but he had been unable to find a woman that was willing to be the wife of a son who wouldn't inherit anything. He was more than ready to settle down, he just didn't have everything he needed to settle down.
With a sigh he looked up as he neared the gates to be announced. He saw a woman sitting at a bench and he looked a bit surprised. "Hello there, my lady."

Cady sighed shaking her leg nervously underneath her big green dress, thanking god that no one could see how nervous she was. She wasn't sure why she was nervous to meet Laeghton, but the ball had started a long time ago and there was no sight of him. Had he really stood her up? She wanted to be angry, however, she wondered if he was really the type of man to humilate a woman such as her. She straightened out her dress and could not help, but turn her head whenever she heard people entering the entrance.
Everytime she was a bit more disappointed that it wasn't Laeghton and she turned her head embarrassed at how desperate she looked right now. She stood up tired of waiting and cursing her impatience and turned to head back into the ballroom when she heard someone greet her. Or so she thought.
She slowly turned around not surprised that it wasn't Laeghton, yet it was a soldier standing there with a slight smile on his face. She could not help, but return that smile and curtesyed in front of him being polite.
"Hello my lord, how are you this evening?" She asked softly trying to hide the fact that she was slowly getting embarrassed at what the scene looked like. She had been stood up and she felt like a right fool. However someone new was talking to her and she was grateful for the company.

"I am well, thank you," he said. Rowan offered a bow in return to her curtsy. "And yourself?" He smiled. "You seemed a bit lonely and figured I would see if there was anything I might be able to do to help." It was said with such sincerity that even though it could have sounded so much worse, he really just meant to help her.
He adjusted the glove on his hand out of habit, unable to help but notice the small warn places where the talons of his falcons had dug into them. All of his gloves were thick enough and long enough that at any moment, his falcons could land on his arm if it was needed. They were his eyes from above, and he felt a bit blind without having them here. They were almost a part of his body with how closely he worked with them.
"I...have to admit I'm a bit out of my league at a ball," he said, just trying to find a way to start up conversation and hopefully make her smile. He couldn't help that a woman in any sort of distress, no matter how mild, always pulled at his heartstrings. "I mean, put a sword in my hand and set me against an opponent and I can dance as well as the rest of them but this..." he shook his head with a playful smile. "This is something more fearsome than battle."

Cady could not help at how dashing and polite the knight was in front of her. He was courteous and showed kind qualities which was nice to come across once coming from a knight. She had been around knights enough to know that some could be arrogant and weak-minded, but he seemed different. She listened to him reply at how well he was doing and even asked about herself and she couldn't help, but smile slightly and blush. It was obvious that Laeghton wasn't going to show up and she was going to be alone if she dismissed the kind knight in front of her. He was rough-looking and looked like a typical warrior, but there was a gleam of spark in his eyes that she couldn't put her finger on.
"I am well thank you, I was expecting my escort, but it seems as if he will not be showing up after all so I would accept your company most gracefully. I thank you for being so kind. Forgive me for not introducing myself, I am Lady Cadence Black, I am a lady-in-waiting for her Majesty the Queen. Most people call me Cady though. And whom may I be addressing?" She asked with a sweet smile forgetting about Laeghton and giving her full attention towards the attentive knight.
She then smirked a bit, "Oh I can understand, I am use to going to balls, but dancing is another story. It can be indeed more fearsome than battle, although, my comfort zone is more in a ballroom instead of a battlefield. I know how to wield a sword, but nothing more than that. Do you dance well enough?" She asked him curiously with a tilt of her head and a grin.

He shook his head. “Seems a shame to leave a lady like yourself waiting in the shadow of the entrance,” he said. He offered another bow as she introduced himself. “It is a knight’s honor and duty to be chivalrous, my lady. Some of us are just more genuine about it than others.” He smiled at her. “I am Sir Rowan Eldritch, my lady, a knight of the realm.” He didn’t expect any recognition. It wasn’t as if he had been any more or less of a soldier than his brother or his father. Besides, she appeared to be quite a few years his junior. He laughed. “My lady, you have indeed found my weakness. I dance well enough, but it is my brothers that seem to have been gifted in that department.” He had learned, just as many of his brothers had, how to dance properly, and danced well enough that he wasn’t an embarrassment. However, he was more involved with the idea of sword fighting and jousting. He winked at her. “Though if you want to dance, I’ll be sure that I don’t step on your toes.” He smiled again.
“You know how to wield a sword?” he asked, a little surprised. The woman in front of him didn’t seem to need to know how to fight with a sword, but then again he supposed most women were full of surprises. He’d spent enough time on the battlefield to know that one should never underestimate their opponent. “Now I’ll really try not to step on your toes.” He held out a hand, questioning if she would like to go inside. “Shall we? Or will I be seeing you inside once you find your friend?”
