The Duchess of Hamptonshire loved the spring weather.
Aislynn Turner opened up the windows that were located in her front room after her husband had left to travel for business outside of Tyrian. He was planned to be gone for over three months and she was absolutely beside herself with excitement that she would not have to deal with such a man for over three months. She hated her husband with a passion and she thoroughly enjoyed herself and her house when he was not present there. Things and her life were much more peaceful and calm when he was not around. She hated him with a passion that she did not know existed inside of her when they had gotten married. On their wedding night Gerard had raped her several times and physically abused her feeling like she had been nothing, but a street whore. The next day she had bruises everyone, but she knew how to cover the bruises and scars now. And all the times she had stood up to him had caused her to be in more pain so she knew that it would do nothing for her positive so she had since then kept her mouth shut and turned her pain and sorrow towards drinking and playing card games. She liked her wine, it helped to escape her pain for a few hours and she knew her husband disapproved of it. She was doing nothing wrong or illegal so he could not forbid her otherwise.
If things had turned out differently in the past, she would not have been married to Gerard. She would never forget her father’s disappointment in her when she had failed to seduce and grab the attention of her close friend and the heir to the throne of Solraya, the Prince Joscelin. It was her decision to make and Joscelin had had no idea of what she had been ordered to do. He had been hurt and confused when she had been pulled from court to marry someone else, he had written her and she had been hurt to see those words from him. He had married her other friend Danielle and she knew that he has always had admiration and love towards her. She had just wanted Joscelin to be happy and he was. She now only wished for herself to find happiness somewhere and sometime.
She walked outside when she heard the sounds of horses approaching and her being curious, she stepped out towards the gate and glanced out towards the entrance of the manor. She then gasped recognizing the dark red and navy blue banners of Tyrian approaching down the road and at a fast pace. She hurried back lifting up her dress and heading back towards the house, motioning for the servants to join her.
“Back into the manor now!” She hissed at them as the horses grew closer and she ushered everyone inside and then was stopped when a guard yelled down the road that the King was on his way and to clear the road ahead. Aislynn’s eyes went wide at the realization that the King of Tyrian was actually in Solraya at the moment. She thought about writing Joscelin, but decided against it just in case it was a trap. He had enough in front of him dealing with everything and she did not wish to burden him anymore, plus it would be awkward just writing to him after years of not speaking to one another. She did not wish to rehash the past. However Tyrian could be preparing to invade the country and as head of the armies, Joscelin did need to know.
Yelling and the hooves of their horses interrupted her thoughts and she closed the door behind her when they were right outside of the manor and travelling up the road towards the river. She sighed in relief when they disappeared and waited a couple minutes before nodding towards the door.
“Be safe out there, keep an eye out for suspicious people.” She warned them all opening the doors and letting the servants out and they nodded in agreement rushing outdoors to finish their work as a horse approached the gate.
“My Lady there is someone at the gate.” Paulette her servant told her from the door and she sighed and walked up front to see who was outside of the door and she stood in the doorway shocked to see someone covered with a hooded cloak outside of her gate. She rushed forward in case someone from Tyrian was approaching and stopped.
“Greetings to you dear traveler, however, I must advise you to watch the roads. We just encountered some guards from Tyrian and they were not the friendliest so please be careful.” She told the person urgently before she saw a glimpse of the traveler’s face and when his hood slipped off his face, she gasped as she recognized her old friend and the King of Solraya in front of her.
“Joscelin… excuse me I am so sorry Your Majesty.” She said correcting herself feeling like a fool as she immediately curtseyed in front of him wondering if he even remembered her. She hoped so otherwise she could be in a lot of trouble for using his name informally.
