What's on your Character's Playlist

Yes I know that this is medieval and there's no such thing as an ipod. This is actually inspired by how I connect with my characters and learn to understand them a bit more.

Bending all rules of space and time, if your character had access to your music library and an ipod, what are some of the songs that would be on your Character's playlist (and if you'd like the Justification). They can be from any point in your character's history as long as you yourself can justify them being there (even if you don't share that with everyone else)

For example:

5) Broken Things (Ryan Kelly)

In retrospect...she has a very depressing playlist at the moment lol. But Guilded Cage is about her captivity in Tyrian, Sick Cycle Carousel is connected to the guilt she has with marrying a man she never loved, The Chain is her meeting with Laeghton and learning to trust him again after all that happened in Tyrian and believing he never returned the letters. Lily Maid and Broken things are in anticipation of her meeting her fiance.

Let me try to do one that's a little less depressing.

Darsidian (Top 5 in no particular order)

1) Mephistopheles (Trans-Siberian Orchestra)
2) Raised by the Wolves (Falling in Reverse)
3) Hurricane (Panic! At the Disco)
4) You Know My Name (Chris Cornell)
5) The Bird and the Worm (The Used)

This one's a little bit more upbeat (but not by much). Mephistopheles talks about the gods of second chance, and it just really reminded me of the deal with the gods for him to become the beast. Raised by the Wolves is a little bit of an obvious choice, but I never said that I didn't go for obvious lol. Hurricane has lyrics that talk about not being like everyone else. It's also the source of the quote "I believe that half the time I am a wolf among the sheep gnawing at the wool over my eyes." You Know my name is on there mainly because it talks about how he has to arm himself because no one else will save him and he believe that most people would kill him in sight if they knew. The Bird and the Worm is kind of a reflection on his mental state and how he originally viewed his wolf.

Bending the rules of space and time makes me feel a bit like The Doctor, so it's all the better. This may take some brainpower on my part, so pardon that it probably gets more rant-like the more I write. (:

That Damned and Devonaire Womanizer

1. Heartbreaker, Celtic Thunder
2. Broken Man, Boys Like Girls

7. Belle, From 'Notre Dame de Paris'

Jude is hiding a very painful past, as hinted by Coldplay's "Lost!" and "The Silence." He wears a very pompous facade in front of everyone else, though he still fears he'll be found out one day, hence "Run For Your Life" (by the way, this is also just an incredible song; Isaac Slade has a way of writing emotions). As for "Heartbreaker," that's what he is, and the song is very characteristic of his loose morality. "Belle" is similar in that respect, as a song of worship to womankind. "Broken Man" portrays his shrouded spirit, and "As I Roved Out" parodies his tendency to fall for any woman he meets.

1) War, Poets of the Fall

"Do you remember standing on a broken field, white crippled wings beating the sky. The harbingers of war with their natures revealed and our chances flowing by. If I can let the memory heal, I will remember you with me on that field. When I thought that I fought this war alone, you were there by my side on the front lines. When I thought that I fought without a cause, you gave me a reason to try."

It's very much an inner monologue of Darsidian and the people that have cared for and about him. He remembers the kindness, but is too hurt by the memory of killing his family that is afraid to let himself heal from it.

2) Crystal Ball, Styx

"I used to like to walk the straight and narrow line. I used to think that everything was fine. Sometimes I'd sit and gaze for days through sleepless dreams. All alone and trapped in time, all alone and trapped in time. I wonder what tomorrow has in mind for me, or am I even in its mind at all. Perhaps I'll get the chance to look ahead and see, soon as I find myself a crystal ball."

Darsidian realizes how uncertain his future is and he has been all alone for a very long time.

3) Facade from "Jekyll and Hyde: A Gothic Musical" (either set of lyrics but these ones spoke to me at the moment)

"So what is the sinister secret, the lie he will tell you is true? It's that each man you meet on the street isn't one man but two."

"Ladies and gents here before you, which none of them ever admits. They have saintly looks but they're sinners and crooks, hypocrites. There are preachers who kill, there are killers who preach. There are teachers who lie, there are liars who teach. Take your pick, dear, 'cause it's all a facade. If we're not one but two, are we evil or good. Do we walk the fine line we'd all cross if we could? Are we waiting to break through the facade?"

Just the idea of duality that Darsidian embodies.

4) The Riddle, from "The Scarlet Pimpernel"

"And we all have so many faces, the real self often erases enticing lies flicker through our eyes. Feel the terror draw ever nearer the more you stare in the mirror. But hold your own. Face the wind alone. Reel on love, toughen your scars. Year by year we're falling like stars till there comes a day, when we sell our souls away. Can I run to you? Are you true to me? I'll do unto you, as you do to me. And we slowly learn, someone has to burn. Better you than me. Oh every Judas once loved a Jesus but finally treason will seize us and only fools follow golden rules."

Just another song that reminds me of Darsidian and how you never know if you can really quite trust him when he talks to you. Is he doing it for himself or actually for you?

5) This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race, Fall Out Boy

"I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words. Yeah, don't really care which side wins, as long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in."

Just the idea of Darsidian being a master of words.
